Here is Bernie the Bug, our Madagascar Cockroach pet. I was visiting with a favorite professor of mine at Purdue a couple weeks ago (who happens to be an entomologist) and he insisted I bring home a bug to Emily & Andrew. Dr. York was right! Bernie is a huge hit! They think he's super fun! They often like to look for him in his cage since he likes to hide. He is getting more used to us now and will sit in our hands. He likes to eat old food and is so very easy to take care of - just the kind of pet we need. No hair, no smells, no walking, no pet sitters, etc. If you want to stop by and meet Bernie, the kids would love to introduce you anytime!

She is so gentle!
Andrew is not as gentle but he's learning! Luckily it is hard to hurt a cockroach! Our last picture is of cousin Lucy showing off Bernie in his little toilet paper house that Emily made.
